RoboCup'2003

The ISocRob team participated in RoboCup 2003, held in Padova, Italy - July 1-12, 2003.

The team included 1 Professor, 3 Msc students and 6 Undergraduate students, all from IST.

In 2003 ISocRob played again in RoboCup and got good results. As usual we participated in the RoboCup Symposium (in which we have participated every year since RoboCup 98), in the Middle-Size League and, for the first time, in the Simulation League. The overall results were quite good, and bring good perspectives for RoboCup 2004 (to be held in Lisbon, Portugal).

RoboCup Symposium

Since RoboCup'98 we have been participating every year in the RoboCup Symposium, presenting papers on our research, and this year was no exception. The following papers were accepted, the 1st one for oral presentation, and the other two for poster presentation:

Middle-Size League

The team made a significant number of changes in software and hardware since its last participation int RoboCup 2001, leading to very important advances. For more information read the Technical Description Paper (whose final version will be available soon).

This year 24 teams participated in the Middle-Size League. The competition was organized in three parts: Round Robin 1, Round Robin 2 and Finals. The ISocRob made it to the Round Robin 2, but a 3rd place in that round was not enough to make it to the finals. In the following tables you can see the results of the 1st and 2nd Round Robin:

The RoboCup 2003 winner was the Fusion team, which got the 1st place in our group in the Round Robin 2.

Middle-Size Challenge

Besides the middle-size league tournament, this year we also participated in the middle size challenge. It consisted of two parts:

We are proud to say we got a 3rd place in the challenge and we can say that our team was the only team that during the dribling part did not touch a single obstacle during all the rounds.

Simulation League

This was the first year the team has participated in the Simulation League. Nevertheless, we entered all the Simulation League competitions: Presentation, Coach Competition and Team Competition. There were 13 teams in the Presentation competition, 16 teams in the coach copetition and 57 teams in the Team Competition.

In the Team Competition we were unable to pass to the second round but the for a first participation, we can say the results were promising regarding the future of the team in this league. You can see the results in the following tables:

Level 1

In the Coach Competition we placed 9th in the first round, one place far from the last place that could take us to the second round. However this competition is yet in very early stages and the results are still a bit odd, since the teams are not yet very "coachable". Look at the results page and see for yourself.

The overall Presentation Competition results are not yet available and will be placed here as soon as possible.
